Welcome: how this course works
Welcome to Grade 3 Science, a free course from the PGAMO Free K–12 School built on Core Knowledge Science.
How each lesson works
- The Big Question — share it first; the whole lesson works toward answering it.
- Teacher’s lesson plan — the Teacher Guide’s steps, materials and timing. Many lessons are hands-on investigations or demonstrations with things you have at home.
- Words to know — go over the new science words.
- Read — when the lesson has a Student Reader chapter, its pages are right in the lesson, with a text version too.
- Talk it over — questions to ask, with answers for the teacher hidden under each one.
- Activity pages — print and complete them.
- Each unit ends with a review and the unit’s own printable assessment, then a short words quiz.
Most families do two or three lessons a week — about 30 minutes each. This course has 63 lessons in 5 units, which fills a school year at that pace.
The units
- Unit 1: Investigating Forces — 10 lessons and a quiz
- Unit 2: Life Cycles, Traits, and Variations — 15 lessons and a quiz
- Unit 3: Habitats and Change — 17 lessons and a quiz
- Unit 4: Weather and Climate — 14 lessons and a quiz
- Unit 5: Human Senses and Movement — 7 lessons and a quiz
