Stack it bark-up, off the ground, in a sunny, breezy spot, and cover only the top.<\/li><li>Seasoned wood is under 20% moisture: check a freshly split face with a moisture meter. It sounds hollow when two pieces knock together and has cracks in the ends.<\/li><li>Wet wood wastes heat and builds creosote. Have the chimney swept at least once a year, and keep smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors working.<\/li><li>Keep ashes in a metal can with a lid, outdoors and away from the house, for several days before dumping.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<section class=\"pgamo-text-image pgamo-text-image--left pgamo-text-image--dark\" id=\"how\">\n<div class=\"pgamo-text-image__inner\">\n<div class=\"pgamo-text-image__media\" style=\"background-image:url('https:\/\/pgamo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/homestead-canning-pantry-1024x683.jpg')\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"pgamo-text-image__content\">\n<h2>Wood Warms You Twice<\/h2><div class=\"pgamo-text-image__text\"><p>Log each pile you cut, split or buy. You will see when each species should be seasoned, a moisture-meter reading under 20% marks it ready, and the woodshed shows how many weeks of heat you have put up against what your house needs.
